Little Lives UK has been given the opportunity to support the fantastic cause that is the Salusbury World Refugee Centre in North London. Little Lives UK are pleased to announce the donation of 15 laptops through our Technology Programme for use in Salusbury World Refugee’s afterschool homework club at the Granville Family Well-Being Centre.
The homework club is run by volunteers and full-time staff in connection with Salusbury Primary School for children aged 6 to 11. A majority of the children who attend the homework club are from families where there is either no device or connectivity to the internet, making online learning and a lot of the tasks in the children’s homework near on impossible in this ever more virtual world.
SWRC are carrying out vital work in the community by holding after school homework clubs for children who are in need of technological, emotional and educational support. Previously the afterschool club only had a limited number of laptops meaning that the children who attended the homework club had to share devices. Now, because of the donation of 15 laptops, children can get on with their own work without distraction from others and having to stop halfway through to let someone else have their turn. The capacity for the afterschool homework club can also now be increased with the recent training of new volunteers who work extremely hard to help every individual who attends the club.
As widely reported, the number of children who went without the right technology to keep up with their schoolwork during the pandemic was at an extreme high and the same problem still exists now. This resulted in children missing out collectively of millions of hours of school time and falling behind with their studies with little time to regain those hours. This will undoubtably cause long-term problems in the future for the children if something isn’t done about it now. Thankfully places like the Salusbury World Refugee Centre exist who help an unimaginable amount.
Since the start of the pandemic, Little Lives UK has donated over 500 devices through Our Technology Programme to children who need them for their education. Little Lives UK are always looking for more applicants to the technology programme whose services will directly benefit children.
A huge congratulations to the Salusbury World Refugee Centre for all the hard work they do and for the support they give to children of the community.
