Children have an incredible ability to dream: a theme reflected in the work of celebrated author Roald Dahl. With stories like Fantastic Mr. Fox, The BFG, and James and the Giant Peach, Dahl’s legacy continues to expand imaginations and inspire childhood dreams.
On his 100th birthday in 2016, Dahl’s work was celebrated through the Dream Jar Trail. Dream jars, which feature in his popular tale \’The BFG\’, were used to create and store good dreams for children. 50 celebrities took part in sharing their childhood dreams and exhibiting their own jars around London.

“My dream is to be in my swimming costume underwater, when suddenly out of the blue comes a GIGANTIC SPERM WHALE. He swims right up to me and we are nose-to-nose. He’s huge and I’m very, very tiny, but we swim along together under the ocean waves” – Maisie Williams.
Dahl\’s creative storylines, with their distinctive characters and fantasy worlds, have encouraged generations of children to dream without limit or care for what is possible. Little Lives works to keep these childhood dreams alive: we know that the dreams of many young people are destroyed by fears and worries, or the social barriers which prevent them from reaching their aspirations as they grow up.
