It is coming, we never thought it would be back, but it is nearly here, our annual week or two of good weather! We were all teased with 5 or 6 days of sunshine just a week ago, only to be plunged back to cloud and cold this week, but donโt fear soon it will be sunny again.
So where should you get your new Spring look?
You want it to be different. You want it to be sustainable. You donโt want to pay a load of money for it. And, you want it to stick out.
Whatโs the obvious choice? The charity shops of London.
London has a great choice of charity shops on most streets and most of them are secret treasure troves of fashion at affordable prices. They are crammed full of preloved clothes that are calling out to be reused, recycled and repurposed. Sometimes you can get yourself a real designer bargain and stick out from the crowd.
But why choose a charity shop for your new look?
For one, they are generally a lot cheaper than your average high-street shop and offer a better selection of clothes and accessories.
The obvious, you are helping to support a good cause. Charity shops are vital to a charityโs survival, especially smaller ones. Your donations are used to fill the charity shops and when you buy from them, the money will go back into the cause you are wanting to support or to your community.
A real hot topic at the moment, climate change. Now you may not think that finding your clothes in a charity shop would help with climate change but unfortunately that is where you are wrong. We waste millions of Pounds worth of textiles in the UK each year, textiles that cost money and natural resources to make and distribute are just thrown into a landfill, contributing to releasing greenhouse gases and damaging the environment.
So, every time you either donate or shop in a charity shop, you are helping to reduce your own carbon footprint by reusing clothes that would have ended up in the bin.
There are some great old styles that make their way back into fashion with the likes of yourself parading them around town. There are tonnes of vintage jeans, jackets, shoes, tops and accessories that have been donated from a bygone era, only to re-emerge as your new spring vintage.
Whatever you wear this Springtime, try to make it sustainable, comfortable and what a bit of you!
