As we start a new year, it is common that many people begin by deciding which New Year’s resolution they choose to embrace. Particularly as we are currently in lockdown, there is ample time to choose which resolution would be most beneficial during these tough times. For instance, healthy eating, staying fit, and taking up activities that will help you stay positive are all useful ideas. In this blog, we’ll provide our best New Year’s resolutions ideas which will make your start to 2021, a positive one.
Read more books
Being stuck at home can often feel demoralising. You may feel bored, anxious, and stressed over aspects of your life being affected by these restrictions. One hobby that you should start doing more, which will undoubtedly help ease these feelings, is to read more. Reading books has a lot more benefits than people may assume. Sitting back and reading can hugely help with depression symptoms and can frequently help reduce stress levels for some individuals. If you want to stay positive during the next couple months, we highly recommend that you start reading more. Here is Amazon’s current list of best sellers for you to have a look at Amazon best selling books.
Healthy lifestyle
Many people will lose sight of their healthy lifestyle over the next couple months. Being unable to use the gym, being stuck at home, and with freezing temperatures outside, it would be the easy choice to lose focus on maintaining a healthy diet. However, making sure that you are healthier and exercise more are New Year’s resolutions that we strongly recommend. Furthermore, exercising more greatly helps in dealing with mental health related issues. Going for a run, let’s say, will improve your self-esteem and is a common way in handling anxiety and depression. Eating a balanced diet, along with exercising more should alleviate your mental health problems during this lockdown.
Consider therapy
It is so important we look after our mental health during this lockdown. After what was such a torrid year, it’s completely understandable that a lot of you may be struggling with your mental health. Most people discuss this with friends and family and take it no further. However, with everything going on, we advise you to be brave and seek therapy. This can be done online and can certainly help you whilst being at home. We’re encouraging children across London to take part in our ‘Someone To Talk To’ project, so that they can express their true feelings during these tough times for schools. We advise you all to do the same and consider getting therapy to help you through the start of the year.
Donating items
You could use this time in lockdown to sort out some of the storage you may have in your home. Clearing out any items or clothes that you feel you no longer need and donating them to charity will make you feel more positive rather than putting them to waste. Deciding to donate more to charity is a New Year’s resolution that a lot of people choose, or to be more charitable in general. Given we are all at home, if you have any clothes lying around that you no longer need or have any electronic items that you don’t use anymore, then feel free to donate them to Little Lives UK. This will make you feel more positive that you’ve donated to a good cause.
Volunteering
You may be feeling quite low with little to do whilst being stuck at home. One New Year’s resolution that would definitely help ease those feelings would be to volunteer for a good cause. Working together with a number of other volunteers towards a good cause can hugely help lead to less stress and lower blood pressure. You’ll feel better about yourself that you’re helping, rather than doing very little. As we continue to vaccinate people in the fight against Covid-19, signing up as a volunteer is unquestionably one way to help. Additionally, when our stores are allowed to re-open, you can sign up as a volunteer for Little Lives UK. Your help will aid our work in improving the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children. It’s going to be a challenging couple months for everyone, so it’s important we keep as positive as we can. We maintain that if you choose to take up any of these resolutions that we’ve provided, then you’ll feel better about yourself and will come out of lockdown a more positive person.
